How can Henry complain about leadership if he's never out there?

Chapter 16
In this chapter, the men start to march once again because another battle is about to take place, different from the other battles Henry going to fight in this one. Henry soon starts to voice his opinion on why they haven't won any battles lately and he blames it on the leadership that his regiment had. Before the battle began the generals moved their regiment into the Forest, Henry didn't like this idea either and he complained about it because he believed that the enemies were waiting for them in the Forest.
