In the final chapter Holden explains that he went back home and was sent to the rest home and that he will continue school in the fall at a new school. He wished that he hadn't talked about all his past experiences with D.B because it makes him miss all the times he had along with the friends.
The whole time that Holden thought he had bad is now missing the times he had. Looking back on this book if Holden would have had someone to talk to the whole time he probably would have had a better life.
